Frogger Dog

My husband claims that I must have a lost/injured animal homing device in my DNA. Maybe he's right. Somehow needy cats, kittens, puppies and dogs often find their way to me in some strange twist of fate. Sometimes they stay only for a meal or for just a dry place to rest. Other times they are here until they need a forever home. One time we had 11 cats in our house! It was a bit overwhelming to say the least, but a lot of fun with all the babies running around.

I guess my homing device was turned up in high gear on Monday morning as my mother and I drove home from Boone, NC after a very long weekend of wedding festivities. While driving down highway 221 south, my mother spotted a little white, fluffy dog attempting to cross the five lane highway as numerous logging and transfer trucks whizzed by. The little pup made it across the right lane and I had enough time to slam on my breaks as he darted out in front of my car before heading to the safety of the turn lane.

Now, there wasn't much a decision to be made here if you ask me. It was just a reflex, I guess. I just opened my car door, put the car in park, jumped out, called the little guy to me, and swiftly put him in my lap. I just looked at this scared little puff ball and said - "well, little one, you're headed to Georgia."

Did I mention Seka and Roxy were in the back seat of the Honda when I brought the white fluffy thing into the car? They were perfect ladies, only sniffing the little man a couple of times and then totally ignoring his lap bouncing for the next 5 hours.

Teddy - well, that's what I'm calling him, is a blond, mini pomarnian, who is approximately 5 years old based on his dental inspection by our vet. He's not neutered, weighs 6 lbs, and he didn't have any identification on him (no collar, microchip, wallet, passport, etc.) at the time of his very dangerous game of frogger. He doesn't have fleas and he has been groomed with a lion cut within the last 6 weeks. He LOVES to be held like a baby and prefers to sleep on his back. He doesn't play with my mom's dogs like I thought he might. Instead, he prefers to just hang back on a lap and cuddle. In a word, he's a LOVE.

So, there is no doubt in my mind that he is someone's lapdog and someone is missing him. I spent all morning yesterday calling every vet, dog groomer and animal control office in Marion, NC giving them my information and a description of Teddy so if anyone called looking for their pup giving a similar description, they could pass along my info. But so far, no one has reported a dog of Teddy's description missing and no one has called me about him. It makes me sad for him.

There's no worries about Teddy finding a good home. We already have 3 people interested in adopting him. I think both my mom and I will have a hard time giving him up. He's such a heartbreaker. Maybe we should have called him Elvis or Brad Pitt instead.

I'm glad you stopped for Teddy and that he's safe now. He looks like a love. :)

Oh, he's so precious. I would have a hard time giving him up. It's unfathomable that heartbroken people aren't searching madly for him. Makes me wonder what his story is.

Good luck finding his owner! He does sound like one that someone is missing. Imagine the shock when they hear he is in Perry, Ga. :-)

can you imagine if someone calls the pound looking for him and they give him a GA phone number! the pound told me that after 3 days he's mine and I should have him neutered. let me tell you this boy hangs low!!!! he is to die for cute. he may have to come stay at my house for a few days before he goes to his forever home so i can have some lapdog love :)

You know what I think? His "owner" doesn't deserve him. There is NO reason that dog shouldn't be neutered nor running near/on a highway and not have any ID!

I say find him a GOOD home!

you could try a pomeranian group on ravelry. if anything, to find him a good new home if you can't keep him.

he's cute. very scary. i suck at frogger. thank god, i wasn't in his body. if i'd have made it passed the cars, i'd have been plopped in the water (so i'm not an amphibious frog, i guess) or eaten by a gator.

yeah, i'm bad at frogger, but i play it on igoogle all the time. geek.

Teddy is about the cutest thing I've seen in awhile. Hope you find his owner or a good home for him soon!!

He is way cute! Mind you - even if he was the ugliest dog in the world you still would have braved the traffic for him!
I know of someone that had a car accident and the dog was thrown out of the car - so maybe the owner is stuck in hospital? Fingers crossed that he finds his parents though he will be hard to give up!

Even though our guys always have their embroidered collars on, I am glad they have ear tattoos for help in identification. I think he looks like an Elvis.

I am glad you saved him! And yes..de-berry him immediately!

and to answer your question on my blog..jason does the 'lap test' to most fosters. Most flip out..Cali snuggled right in and fell asleep. Now..she demands to be in his lap by bumping her head in to his leg until he picks her up.

omg he is sooo cute!! if u cant find the owner, i would love to take him. i have 3 poms already who are my babies...yes i spoil them, they eat much better than i do even lol. i'm in CO but i would figure something out to give him a great home. i have family in FL...so something could be figured out. i just found your blog, so i dont know if you found his owner or he already has a home...but let me know. i found your blog cause i was researching raw diets cause 1 of my poms has been having skin problems...hot spots, balding etc...so we already tried an allergen free limited ingredient diet food & its helped but not enough...so i was considering maybe a vegan or raw food diet. so any info on how your pups are doing would be helpful too. my email is jos897(@)hotmail(.)com. so let me know if you are still trying to find a loving home for teddy...or i'd be happy just to hear how he's doing. i would be heartbroken if it was 1 of my babies but i do agree that mine would have tags on, and everywhere would be notified so that sounds weird that no one was missing him. these are hard times so who knows. hope he is doing well. he is probably the same age as my youngest pom, a girl named bobbi who was born the day my dad passed away. she'll be 5 in feb. the other girl is 10 (the momma) & the only boy (the poppa) is 9. they really are my life. anyway thanks for sharing any advice on raw diets...

=)
